Disposable camera app for weddings and parties
A disposable camera app works like the cardboard cameras on wedding tables, but on your guests’ phones. Each guest gets a limited number of shots, nobody can see the photos during the party, and everything “develops” at once the next morning.
Why disposable cameras became a wedding tradition
Putting a disposable camera on every table has been a reception classic for years. The appeal is easy to understand: limited shots make people choose their moments, nobody stares at a screen, and the morning-after reveal is half the fun.
The downsides are just as familiar. The cameras cost money per table, half of them go home in someone’s bag, the film has to be developed, and plenty of the shots come back dark or blurry because of the tiny flash. An app keeps the good part and drops the logistics.
How a disposable camera app works
- 1The host creates an event on PictureBox and picks the disposable camera type.
- 2The host decides how many shots each guest gets, anywhere from 1 to 200.
- 3Guests scan the QR code on the table, which opens the app for iPhone or Android and puts them in the event. They type their name and the camera is ready.
- 4Every photo counts down the roll. Nobody, including the host, sees the photos during the party.
- 5At the reveal time the photos develop. By default that is 9:00 the morning after, and guests get a notification when the film is ready.
How many shots should each guest get?
There is no right answer, but the number changes how people shoot. A few rules of thumb:
- 10 to 15 shots: the real film-camera feeling. Guests think before they shoot, and you get a small, curated set from each person.
- 24 to 27 shots: the length of a classic disposable. Enough for a full evening without running out at dessert.
- 50 shots or more: a relaxed limit for long events, weekends or a party where you mainly want lots of photos.
For a wedding with 100 guests, even 15 shots each is up to 1,500 photos. That’s plenty. For a smaller birthday or bachelorette party, you can be more generous.

Disposable mode, live gallery or both
A disposable camera is about suspense. A live gallery is about the shared feed: everyone sees photos the moment they’re taken, and it looks great on a screen at the reception. Each suits different events.
- Choose disposable for weddings, milestone birthdays and parties where you want people present, not scrolling.
- Choose the live gallery for a baby shower, a graduation party or a company event where the shared feed is part of the entertainment.
- Choose both if you can’t decide. PictureBox runs a live album and a disposable film per guest side by side.
Good to know before the party
A few small things make the difference between a full film and a half-empty one:
- Put the QR code on every table and say a sentence about it after dinner is served. Guests who never hear about the camera won’t use it.
- Explain the limit on the card, for example “You have 15 shots. Make them count.” It turns the limit into part of the game.
- Ask a co-host to help guests who get stuck, especially older relatives. Once one person at a table is in, the rest usually follow.
- Pick a reveal time that suits your event. The default of 9:00 the next morning works for most evening parties, but you can choose another time.
- Send a short message to all guests during the party to remind them their shots are waiting.
After the reveal
Once the photos develop, guests can browse the whole film and save their favorites. The host downloads the entire gallery in one go. If photo approval is on, you or a co-host decide what appears in the shared gallery, and you can always remove photos.
Guests keep the copyright to their photos and give you permission to use and share them, for example in a thank-you post. Photos are stored on servers in the EU.

Questions and answers
- What is a disposable camera app?
- An app that turns guests’ phones into single-use cameras for your event: a limited number of shots, no preview during the party, and a shared reveal afterwards.
- When do the photos develop?
- At the reveal time set for the event. By default it is 9:00 the morning after, and guests get a notification when the photos are ready.
- Can the host see the photos before the reveal?
- No. In disposable camera mode nobody sees the photos until they develop. That is the whole point.
- Is a disposable camera app cheaper than real disposable cameras?
- You skip buying a camera per table and paying for developing, and no cameras disappear. Getting started with PictureBox is free.
- Can I combine a disposable camera with a live photo album?
- Yes. Pick the “Both” event type and you get a live album everyone can see plus a disposable film for each guest.
